Ok. So, this album was a disappointment to me. I was expecting so much from this album considering the last two were phenomenal. I heard their new music a few weeks ago on MySpace and didn't want to admit that I didn't think it wasn't as good, but after listening to the entire thing, I cannot believe that this is the new sound of one of my favorite bands of all time.
I read a review of the album, after I had listened the it once already, that discussed the new and improved chord progressions and the amazing background orchestra that they employed. I stuck my headphones on again to listen for it, and I got what he was saying, but couldn't get past the repetitive lyrics. I am so used to the poetic nature of their prose and after listening to this a few times, just feel like Aaron was lazy in his writing.
It has been over two years since they released an album and I was expecting attention to detail on every second, and don't feel like many of the fans (which are extremely loyal) will feel justified in enjoying this album even as much as the others.
I give this album a 6/10.
I still give the band a 9/10. This album will never pull from the overall amazingness of the band. If you have not checked them out, DO IT! (just check out "Catch for us the foxes" or "Brother, Sister."

Fun.
Well...a few days ago, I had the utmost pleasure of seeing Fun. and Manchester Orchestra in concert. Since Manchester's newest album just came out recently, it was nice that not the entire audience knew every word. They closed with a few older songs including a ten minute version of "Where Have You Been?" It was amazing.
First on the list of the night was a band called Winston Audio. They were alright, though nothing serious to note. Their singer was by far the most impressive and their style was clearly influenced by Manchester's simplistic attitude. It was alright.
Next was the Audrye Sessions. This band was unbelievable. Their singer's voice sounded very much like Thom Yorke and the band didn't suck either. It was difficult to understand what the singer was saying, but it didn't really matter. The entire show was done with an amazing amount of finesse that is very difficult to find in a small venue show like this one.
However, the stealer of the show was Fun. Nate Reuss came out on stage and dominated the entire show. They played a variety of material that will air on their debut album called "Aim and Ignite" in August. They also learned and played a few of The Format's stuff, which was extremely nice for the small section of the audience that were fans before the demise of the band. In essence, Fun. made every single person in the audience a fan of powerpop and kept each and every listener wanting more from beginning to end. I took pictures of the whole show and actually had to keep myself reminded that I was looking at Nate instead of Steven Tyler. Reuss' mouth is huge, and the high pitched angelic voice that emanates from it is phenominal.
Hands down, if you have the chance to go see Fun., do it. You will not regret it. You can get their album in August, but unitl then, listen to either of The Format's LP's, "Interventions and Lullabies" or "Dog Problems." Reuss finished the show by thanking everyone and saying that Fun. would learn more Format covers if we (the audience) would learn all of Fun.'s material.
Needless to say, I am excited to hear the debut album and cannot wait to see them again.

Manchester Orchestra
Exciting news (times 2)! My fiance and I are going to see Manchester Orchestra on the 7th. If you have not heard of this band, they are amazing. I first saw them when I was at a Piebald/mewithoutYou concert. They tore up the stage and almost took the show from mewithoutYou (not that that could ever happen). They are passionate and make me want to listen to music constantly. I am so excited to see them again.
Coincidentally, they are playing a show with Fun. who is a new band (CD comes out tomorrow) comprised of old members of The Format and Anathallo. I am equally excited to see Fun. in concert.
Manchester Orchestra just came out with a new album (on the 17th of April) called "Mean Everything to Nothing," and it if phenomenal. It builds on the simplistic and gritty sound that they coined in their first album, "I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child." The two albums compliment each other quite well. Though this new album (Mean Everything to Nothing) is complex in its chord progressions and styles, the band starting using distortion on their guitars, which deters from their original clarity and beauty. It is only a slight deterrent from this albums overall beauty and poise.
I recommend this band to people who like:
Mae, mewithoutYou, The Snake, the Cross, the Crown, or The Format.
I give this album, "Mean Everything to Nothing," an 8.5 out of 10.
