mewithoutYou's new album, "it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's alright!

Ok. So, this album was a disappointment to me. I was expecting so much from this album considering the last two were phenomenal. I heard their new music a few weeks ago on MySpace and didn't want to admit that I didn't think it wasn't as good, but after listening to the entire thing, I cannot believe that this is the new sound of one of my favorite bands of all time.

I read a review of the album, after I had listened the it once already, that discussed the new and improved chord progressions and the amazing background orchestra that they employed. I stuck my headphones on again to listen for it, and I got what he was saying, but couldn't get past the repetitive lyrics. I am so used to the poetic nature of their prose and after listening to this a few times, just feel like Aaron was lazy in his writing.

It has been over two years since they released an album and I was expecting attention to detail on every second, and don't feel like many of the fans (which are extremely loyal) will feel justified in enjoying this album even as much as the others.

I give this album a 6/10.

I still give the band a 9/10. This album will never pull from the overall amazingness of the band. If you have not checked them out, DO IT! (just check out "Catch for us the foxes" or "Brother, Sister."

agreed. a lot of people have given me crap for not liking it, but i would like it if they weren't the same guys that produced "catch for us the foxes". i wish they would've done what radiohead did and just gotten plain weird, not generic.

but i do however like "goodbye, i"

but i can't even make it through the whole album because he talks about food and animals so damn much. i was very disappointed this is probably their last album too. a sad quiet ending to a band that has said so much.

I completely agree. When I first heard the lyrics about the argument between the bird and the rodent, and them trying to get food, I just laughed. I did my best to get into it, but just couldn't

I hope they have one more in them.

Hey, sorry I’ve been meaning to comment for forever and I kept forgetting.

I don't like this album as much as Catch For Us The Foxes or Brother, Sister, but I don’t find it to be as bad as a lot of the reviews I’ve read online. There's a few that I honestly just really love.

But, even on some of the songs I like, I feel like there is A LOT of repetition on this album, and not necessarily in a good way. The running theme of animals doesn’t really bother me so much as just some the repetitiveness of the lyrics. Sometimes it makes me feel like I’m a five-year old singing a song in Sunday school or something.

I think some of the songs are great and really well written though. I really, really like:
Every Thought a Though of You
Goodbye, I. (I really like the lyric “there’s a movement in our stillness and however much we move we’re bound to stand completely still” and then the instrumental following it is really great too, although the end lyrics are a little repetitive, I still like it in this case)
Timothy Hay
The King Beetle on a Coconut Estate (this song is a bit strange, but I’m really into it for some reason! I also looove the reference of “why not be utterly changed in the fire” It’s a lyric from Four Word Letter Pt. 2 “you strike the match why not be utterly changed in the fire”)
Allah, Allah, Allah. (The way it ends sounds so final but I love it. I think it’s a really beautiful to the CD).

At the same time there’s some that I just plain can’t stand listening to (The Angel of Death Came to David’s room, bullet to Binary, and Fig with a bellyache). I feel like bullet to binary is like three minutes too long and I feel like “reaping what you sow” is just really generic and cliché.

Then the others just kind of fall in the middle for me; they’re okay, but they’re not my favorite songs mewithoutYou has ever made.

I’m so sorry I wrote so much! Haha, I bet you wish I just stop already. I’m sorry you didn’t like it though :( and I reeeally hope they make at least one more!

I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't like their newest album, but if you had looked into it like I did you would understand the transition. Brother, Sister was supposed to be the last album, but they got back together with the sole purpose of creating music that they enjoy listening to. I was also skeptical when first listening to the album, songs toward the end really made me enjoy the album for what it is. I'm not saying that it is better then Brother, Sister or Catch For Us The Foxes, but for the style of music that they were going for with this album they nailed it. Again, the sole purpose of this album stated by their lead singer Aaron was to create an album that they would enjoy listening to, and an album that would be more accessible to the kids they are planning on having in the near future. Take the album for what it is, and just be glad that mewithoutYou decided to come together more time and put together some enjoyable songs.
